What is Stepper? Sweet ska, mixed with gritty reggae, spiced with punk and made complete with a dash of head bobbin, rockin' soul, designed to get dance floors jumping.
Stepper's exceptional line up includes an all-star review of musical veterans, and when they hit the scene they immediately started making waves. They caught the attention of Grammy award winning producer George Massenburg, who invited them to record with him at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. The resulting album, "Way Out" was released in 2009. The album started gaining momentum and popularity, immediately earning strong reviews and college-radio support from coast to coast. The band supported this release with a successful cross Canada tour, playing many great shows including the Victoria, Ottawa and Montreal Ska Festivals, and became representatives of the newly revitalized Montreal ska scene. The fun loving nature of ska, accessibility of the music, and Stepper's infectious energy create a positive experience that leaves dance floors screaming for more.
Steppers primary objective is to play live shows, tour extensively and make people dance. They have shared the stage with The Slackers, The Aggrolites, The Living End, The Planet Smashers, Los Furios, Westbound Train, Mustard Plug and many more, and have performed as the backing band for The Fabulous LoLo, the rocksteady project from Canadian ska legend Lorraine Muller (The Kingpins, Les Handclaps).
Stepper is poised for the future, building relationships in China with the Chinese Reggae band, Long Shen Dao. Several members of Stepper are featured on their debut release and plans for an exchange are in the works for 2010. Stepper is currently in the planning stage of their third album; songs are written and arrangements are being honed and perfected. Producer Dave A. Sturton (Jean Le Loup, Bran Van, Long Shen Dao) is assisting the band to realize the project; they plan to start recording in early spring 2010. Once their next album is complete, Stepper is poised to seek physical distribution, but will continue to concentrate their efforts on the performance side of music. With the focus of the music industry shifting to live shows, Stepper is well placed, delivering action packed performances across Canada and aligning themselves with the new reality of the industry.
