D. W. Lee

D. W. Lee D. W. Lee is a composer and multi-instrumentalist working in a number of high-profile projects covering a variety of styles.

He earned his B.Mus in Jazz Performance from McGill University, and in addition to working as a session player, he made his name on the creative music scene as bandleader and drummer for the post-free jazz group The D. W. Lee Quartet, and the seven piece jazz-metal band Kid Eat Crayons, whose 2007 album Is For Lovers earned an international cult fan base and critical acclaim.

In Canada, D. W. is best known for his work on the ska-reggae scene. He has acted as drummer with ska icons General Rudie, drummer and guitarist with The Fabulous LoLo Sings Rocksteady, and guitarist and vocalist with Stepper, a group in which he is one of three songwriters. The band released their full-length album Way Out in 2009. That same year, D. W. released an album of acoustic folk with his eponymous Dennis William Lee Trio, and was one of fourteen composer/performers from around the world awarded a fellowship to attend the Art Omi International Musicians Residency.

His favourite dinosaur is ankylosaurus.
